The Oklahoma Lengthy Trial Fund

For most jurors, Oklahoma pays a flat $50 per day. The picture changes on long cases. When a trial runs beyond 10 days, the Lengthy Trial Fund may replace lost wages at up to $200 a day starting on day 11. Jurors who can prove hardship may also receive up to $50 a day extra for days 4 through 10. This matters for self-employed people and hourly workers who would otherwise lose income, since employers are not obliged to keep paying. Mileage is paid daily for the round trip, and some courts provide parking.

Postponements tied to small Oklahoma employers

Oklahoma grants one postponement as of right: contact the court clerk by phone, by email, in writing or in person and set a new date within six months. A second requires an extreme emergency. A further rule protects tiny workplaces: if your employer has 5 or fewer full-time staff and a co-worker was summoned for the same period, your service is postponed automatically. For an excuse, ask the judge before the reporting date with documents such as tax returns, medical statements or proof of dependency. Missing work alone does not count as hardship, and an excuse that is not permanent lasts two years.
